Put the slides in their hands

When learners follow along on their own screen, they’re no longer squinting at the front or drifting off. They control their own view, and — crucially — the device that could distract them is now the device showing your content.

Open a back-channel

A live chat alongside the slides gives quieter learners a voice they’d never use out loud. Allow public messages for the whole room and private messages to you for the ones who’d rather ask discreetly. Emoji reactions add a lightweight pulse of feedback without interrupting your flow.

Watch for drop-off

Live presentations let you see who has joined, who’s active, and who has quietly gone inactive. That’s information a projector can never give you — use it to pace the room and to pull people back before you’ve lost them.

Break the broadcast

Even a well-followed slideshow benefits from the occasional interruption. Pause to launch a quiz or a discussion, then return to the deck. The change of mode resets attention far more effectively than a louder voice.

Keep slides sparse

On a personal screen, a wall of text is even deadlier than on a projector. One idea per slide, big and clear, with the detail coming from you. The slide is the anchor; you are the content.
